Spinal Decompression
DTS Spinal Decompression Therapy is a pain-free alternative that has shown a very high rate of success at reducing and eliminating back and neck pain. There has been significant success for patients choosing DTS rather than risky, expensive surgeries or other invasive methods of treatment. DTS is effective for both acute and chronic pain and can be provided for a large variety of ailments. If you suffer from chronic, debilitating lower back or neck pain call my office today to make an appointment to see if you’re a candidate for the DTS Spinal Decompression Therapy.
disc comparisonSpinal decompression therapy is FDA cleared and has a high success rate for pain associated with herniated or bulging discs…even after failed surgery. It is a non-surgical, traction based therapy for the relief of neck and back pain as well as the associated radiating pain into the extremities. During this procedure, the bones of the spine are slowly and methodically separated using the state-of-the-art DTS Spinal Decompression Unit. As the vertebrae are separated pressure is slowly reduced within the disc (intradiscal pressure) until a vacuum is formed. This vacuum “sucks” the gelatinous center of the disc back inside thereby reducing the disc bulge or disc herniation. Significant disc bulge reduction removes pressure off of the spinal nerves and drastically reduces pain and disability. This “sucking” vacuum also pulls much-needed oxygen, nutrients and fluid into injured and degenerated discs allowing the healing to begin.
In almost all cases, the treatments are completely painless. In fact, some patients fall asleep during the spinal decompression session.
The number of sessions needed and your specific treatment plan will be determined by the doctor after your examination.
Therapy sessions typically last less than 20 minutes and most people feel pain relief with as few as 6-10 treatments. It is important to remember however, that pain subsiding does not infer that your discs and spine are healed, so it’s critical that patients stick with the treatment protocol prescribed in order to achieve the full value of the DTS Therapy.
Spinal decompression therapy is not recommended for pregnant women, patients who have severe osteoporosis, severe obesity or severe nerve damage. Specific conditions which are contraindicated include vertebral fractures, spondylolisthesis (Grade 2 or higher, Grade 1 is fine), Spondylolysis, unstable post surgical condition and patients who have had spinal surgery with instrumentation (screws, metal plates or “cages”). However, spinal decompression therapy after bone fusion or non-fusion surgery may be performed.
